Marble after finishing in Riyadh: why acid etches it, and what to do instead

Marble in a Riyadh villa is chosen to stay polished. The damage we see most often is not dust. It is a product bought to clean it: vinegar, lemon, cement remover, or an acid bathroom cleaner.
What acid does to marble
Marble is a lime stone. Acid eats the polish and leaves a dull patch, as if the floor got wet and dried badly, even after you rinse. That is not dirt you can wipe. Wiping again only spreads the patch.
Porcelain and ceramic can take a diluted cement remover if you rinse well. Marble cannot. Surface by surface, that is in the post-construction cleaning checklist.
The finishing stains we see

- Cement and grout splash on marble: rough dots, not a dull shine.
- Paint on the edges.
- Rust from metal left on a wet floor.
- Work boots that left a dark track in the hall.
Cement comes off with the right tool and a light hand, not with acid. If the splash has already cut the polish, grinding and then polishing put the surface back. Grinding is separate from washing the house, and it is priced after we see the area and how deep the damage is.
Before you try something from the kitchen

- Do not pour vinegar, lemon, or a descaler “on a small spot” in the middle of the majlis. A hidden corner is the only place for a test, and only if you already know the product is not an acid. Better to leave the test to the crew.
- Do not use steel wool.
- Fine dust after finishing, if you wet it before vacuuming, dries as a film on the marble. Vacuum first, water after. That order is in the finishing checklist.
What we need before a price

A photo of the floor in daylight, a close photo of the stain, and the marble if you know it (white, beige, veined). Large floors and multi-storey villas are not priced from “the marble looks dull”. Send a quote request with photos.
If the damage is an old acid mark in a house you already live in, say so when you book a clean so the patch is not treated as ordinary dirt.

Frequently asked questions
Is polishing enough after acid?
If the etch is shallow, a local polish may be enough. If the polish has gone from a wide area, the floor needs grinding and then polishing. A close photo is what separates the two.
Is marble-look ceramic treated the same way?
No. A lot of Riyadh porcelain imitates marble and tolerates what the stone does not. If you are not sure, ask before any cement remover. A mistake on the stone costs more than the question.
Does a deep clean include grinding?
No. A deep clean washes and maintains. Grinding is its own machine and its own time, added only if the floor needs it.
Should we grind before we move in?
After painting and plumbing are finished, so dust and paint do not land on a floor you just ground. If you already live there and the damage is old, the rooms can be scheduled one by one.
The short version
Acid leaves a mark on marble that water will not lift. Take finishing splashes off with the right tool, and grind what has lost its polish. Ask for a quote with photos, and read the handover checklist.
