Nano sealing for marble: what it does and when you need it

Water droplets beading on a sealed marble floor

Marble is porous. Coffee, tea and oil seep into the pores and leave dark stains that are hard to draw out. A sealer fills those pores, so a spill sits on the surface longer and you have time to wipe it before it gets in.

What a sealer protects against

  • Coffee, tea and coloured juice stains.
  • Oil in the kitchen and around the dining table.
  • Water rings in entrances and bathrooms.

What it does not protect against

A sealer does not stop acid etching. Lemon and limescale remover still eat the surface through a sealer. We explain this in why acid ruins marble.

When to apply it

  • Right after grinding and polishing, with the floor clean and fully dry.
  • Kitchens, majlis rooms and entrances first, since they take the most spills.
  • Renew it every one to two years, depending on use.

What it costs

Nano sealing is 9–12 SAR per m², added to grinding and polishing. Current prices are on the prices page.

FAQ

Does sealing change the colour of the marble?

The right sealer does not change the colour or leave an artificial gloss.

How do I know the sealer has worn off?

Put a drop of water on the floor. If it soaks in fast and leaves a dark mark, it is time to reseal.
